Larger guns were mainly for siege or naval use due to the weight of he barrels. This excellent condition case is dated 1954 and has good stenciled markings indicating it was loaded with the M42A1 High Explosive shell. By WW2 the design was much simplified and the Mark V signal pistol made by Sedgley became the most commonly used gun. Colored signals were more for signally, but they did provide some illumination. It saw combat in the Italian Campaign and on the Western Front in Northwest Europe. I think I have the ID right on all these, but welcome corrections. Overall a good example of this classic shell case, but needing a really good cleaning as it is a mellow chocolate brown with lots of staining and crud. This one is in mint unissued condition, complete with the leather carrying case, although the case shows some storage dirt. 3- Scarce M14B4 steel case made with a heavy steel base with the sides made of spiral wrapped sheet steel. The brass band in VG condition (with a slight ding as shown in the photos. $65.00 (View Picture), 20476 RUSSIAN 152mm GUN CARTRIDGE CASE (152 x 545mm Rimmed) - This case is for most of the Russian 152mm guns, including the WW2 era Model 1937 (ML-20) and the Cold War Model 1955 (D20) guns. The Italians adopted their version in 1935 as the Model 1935 and they continued in use through WW2 and into the 1960s. These were the same for both world wars, and no markings visible to identify date of manufacture. When the mechanical time fuze goes off, it ignites an expelling charge which ignites and ejects the flare canister and its parachute by blowing off the base plate. Projectile is unmarked. Base fuze and explosive filler of the projectile have been removed, along with the propelling charge. These were used with the International Flare Signal and Kilgore Model 52 flare guns, and probably all the other heavy 37mm flare guns with barrels about 8-8.5 inches long. These used a brass band around the base which would expand into the rifling, very similar to the Parrot Projectiles in appearance. The tube for the ignition cartridge and propelling charge is installed. About 9 inches high, and about 8.5 inch diameter. The carriage was of split trail type, equipped with a single equilibrator spring beneath the breech and wheels with pneumatic tires. The barrel of the T9 was combined with breech, recoil system and carriage, all adapted from the 105 mm howitzer M2. Unlike the fragmentation High explosive rounds which have thicker casings, the smoke round uses a thin casing, and the burster charge in the tube in the center will blow the casing apart when fired by the nose PDF fuze, and scatter and ignite the white phosphorous charge to provide smoke. I have only seen a few of these loose and was fortunate enough to find a couple more. The steel primer is badly rusted and pitted, but the brass case is in pretty good shape. Former Mokena mayor Joe Werner and his Veterans Garage restored a World War II cannon and will return it to Mokena's Pioneer Cemetery on Veterans Day.
