Great campsite in a canyon, as you drive towards it you wonder where it is and then you drove down into the canyon, its hidden away. Featuring air conditioning, Gondwana Namib Desert Lodge is located in Solitaire, 60 km North of Sesriem. The Tropic of Capricorn is the southernmost latitude where the sun can be directly overhead (I just googled that). It was beautiful to watch the sun go down over a flat plain of land and then turn around to watch the clouds turn pink and form into a huge storm. Very nice campsite, near a riverbed. It was such a peaceful overnight stop on our journey from Windhoek to Sossusvlei. This area, also called the Namib Sand Sea, is a World Heritage Site. braai Packs, firewood and drinks for sell. Loved the walking trails around the hotel, Amazing location, beautiful views, great staff. A nice little pool, loads of tortoises around and lots of Zebra at night. We are back again!! There are slight delays because of added health protocols but the border crossing is still straightforward and typically doesnt take longer than an hour. We saw about 15 wild zebras drinking from the water hole at night. There's a swimming pool but it was empty when we visited. Some oryx visited the waterhole.
