Kozo papers are very strong because of the long Kozo fibres. As submerging the paper in water may over-soak it, I find that simply spritzing it with an atomiser or misting bottle is sufficient to relax the paper a little and help it accept the ink and enhance the embossing effect that is created with the extra pressure when used in a press. Take your time to cut neatly and you will be so much happier with the end result. Sharpen u gouges in sections and v gouges one side at a time. While the 300gsm weight calls for some effort when hand-printing with a baren, the results are well worth it. Japanese paper is also definitely worth a mention and I highly recommend it.
