I am from the old school of wet sanding by hand with just 1500 and tried to use 2000 grit 3m by hand and it did not work it felt like no progress at all, so I ended up just buffing the 1500 3m, and buffing my tale off to get it to shine like glass, and still there were sand scratches in the paint it never looked how I wanted it to look, and thanks to 3m for coming up with trizact 1500 and then 3000 and now 5000 it is awsome how it works, taking your time with this system you can make paint look like a show car paint job, and every body knows that it is well worth the work when its all done, as far as the 5000 grit 6 inch foam it is the finish part thats very important and this will do a awesome job, and it last 10 times longer and thats just the 5000 after sanding a panel wipe it dry and you will see a polished look to it, thats what it does, try all three grits its awesome you wont be sorry.Read full review.
