The Google Home app has a lot of great ideas, but its handling of the Nest lineup is a far cry from the focused greatness of the previous Nest app. No one should have to buy a product on the promise of future fixes, and theres no excuse for how unready the Home app was for these new cameras because, again, Google had years to prepare. The footage can be parsed through on a computer, you can store more offline, and it means the camera works completely without a subscription. Its a simple but effective design. The problem is google doesn't recognize my billing address as being valid and the people at nest can't seem to correct this. While it doesnt really hide itself in my homes decor, it also doesnt draw too much attention to itself, and feels much more subtle compared to its older sibling from 2015, and even competing cameras from the likes of Arlo, Ring, and others. This prevents the camera being used to monitor the outside of the home. We already use the app, so it was easy to add. Installation was easy using the QR code, however the app was a little hard to navigate and the options to customize were limited. The camera captures 1080p video at 30fps and uses HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology to deliver enhanced colors and contrast.
The first is the base, which is dense in weight, but actually the smaller of the two pieces. For instance, you cant set a schedule on the new Nest Cam, which makes it almost useless in large portions of my home.
