We only had a short time to spend there, so instead of a mural, I led a painting workshop where the girls worked on three canvases (which would then be hung together to make a sort of mini mural). The workshop included a visit to the museum gallery to view Warhols Marilyn x 100, a presentation on the history and evolution of Pop Art with emphasis on specific artists and discussion of the techniques used in creating different artworks. He intimately knows the struggles and challenges of a growing screen printer, and students of this screen printing class will receive both technical knowledge about screen printing and real-life guidance for turning your passion into a business. We printed these designs onto balloons which were then installed at the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Clevelands grand opening, MOCA Cleveland, and at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the AIDS Memorial Walk during the Gay Games. I worked with Chilean visiting artist, Mauricio Corts Fuentes, while he stayed in Cleveland for 3 months through the Cleveland Foundations Creative Fusion program. Since his humble start, printing in his parent's basement, his business has grown to encompass three manual presses and an automatic screen printing press operating out of a large warehouse. As with the Sisterhood group, these portraiture workshops explored issues of identity and self with the participants, and culminated in an art show featuring their work at the end. Emphasis on and discussion of the history of printmaking as a tool for social change included a preliminary overview of printmaking and its shaping of history, with specific printed examples from abolition, suffrage, independence, revolutionary, civil rights, workers and union rights, peace/anti-war, feminist, environmental, and LGBTQ movements. Since his humble start, printing in his parent's basement, his business has grown to encompass three manual presses and an automatic screen printing press operating out of a large warehouse. As with the Sisterhood group, these portraiture workshops explored issues of identity and self with the participants, and culminated in an art show featuring their work at the end. Emphasis on and discussion of the history of printmaking as a tool for social change included a preliminary overview of printmaking and its shaping of history, with specific printed examples from abolition, suffrage, independence, revolutionary, civil rights, workers and union rights, peace/anti-war, feminist, environmental, and LGBTQ movements. As a team, we developed a public art installation for the Gay Games researching and illustrating designs for the AIDS Memorial Walk, focusing on the history of and educational information surrounding the disease.
